The conversions come from each brand’s official size guide, checked in October 2026: the men’s shoe conversion chart on Shimano’s official store, Sidi’s Millennium Fit guide and Fizik’s foot length chart. Cycling shoes are sold in European sizes, in the US as well, and each brand uses its own last, so the same EU size doesn’t always fit the same foot: choose by foot length, not by the number.
EU to US and UK cycling shoe sizes
| EU size | US Shimano | US Sidi | UK Sidi | US Fizik | UK Fizik |

| 40 | 7 | 7.5 | 6.5 | 7 ½ | 6 ½ |
| 41 | 7-7.5 | 8 | 7 | 8 ¼ | 7 ½ |
| 42 | 8.5 | 9 | 8 | 9 | 8 |

| 46 | 11-11.5 | 12 | 11 | 12 | 11 |
| 47 | 12 | 13 | 12 | 13 | 12 |
Shimano’s chart is the men’s chart and doesn’t give a UK size; for some sizes it lists two US numbers because that European size falls between two American ones. For women’s shoes, US numbering can be different: check the chart for your model.

Shimano and Sidi agree almost to the millimeter. Fizik assigns about 5 mm (0.2 in) more foot to each size: if your foot is 10.63 in (270 mm), you’re a 43 (272 mm) in Shimano or Sidi and a 42 (270 mm) in Fizik.
How to measure your foot
- Put a sheet of paper on the floor against a wall and stand with your heel against the wall, weight evenly spread.
- Mark the tip of your longest toe, which isn’t always the big toe, holding the pencil straight up.
- Measure from the wall to the mark, in millimeters if you can; with a ruler in inches, read to the nearest 1/16 in.
- Repeat with the other foot and use the larger number, as Sidi recommends.
- Find your measurement in your brand’s column. If you’re between two sizes, Shimano and Sidi recommend the larger one.
Shimano points out that cycling shoes are designed to fit snugly: don’t buy a size up “just in case” if your measurement lands squarely in one size.
Once you’ve picked your shoes, install and align your cleats as explained in our guide to cleats and clipless pedals and set up your position: the saddle height calculator gives you a starting point, and the bike size calculator gives you a frame size from your height and inseam. The bike helmet size chart rounds out your gear, and the vocabulary for cleats, pedals and components in six languages is in the components glossary.
Frequently asked questions
What size cycling shoe do I need if my foot is 10.4 inches long?
A 10.4 in (265 mm) foot is an EU 42 in Shimano and Sidi, which assign 265 mm to that size. In Fizik, 265 mm falls between the 41 (263.5 mm) and the 41.5 (267 mm): Fizik runs large, so you usually go half a size or a full size down.
Do cycling shoes fit the same as regular shoes?
Not always. Each brand uses its own last, so it's better to choose by foot length in millimeters or inches rather than your usual shoe size. Shimano points out that a cycling shoe should fit snugly.
What if I'm between two cycling shoe sizes?
Shimano and Sidi recommend going with the larger size. Measure both feet and always use the length of the longer one.
